Join us for a boardwalk project on the Superior Hiking Trail!
Volunteers will install a boardwalk on a section of the trail between the Onion River Road (Oberg Mtn.) parking lot and Leveaux Mountain. Stop by and help carry a board or pound a nail before your hike!
About the project: This is a popular section of the Superior Hiking Trail that leads to an overlook with beautiful views of Lake Superior and the Superior National Forest. Hikers who have visited this trail in the past might remember a particularly wet area of the trail close to the parking area that always poses a challenge to those wishing to keep their boots dry. This project is timely as runners in the Superior Fall Trail Race will be passing over this section of the trail the following weekend.
The day will begin with volunteers carrying boards from the parking area to the construction site, about 1/3 of a mile. Volunteers under the guidance of Jan Horak will work to place and secure planks to create a 180 foot boardwalk.
What to bring: Volunteers should wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt as well as waterproof footwear. Remember to bring plenty of water!
Gloves, safety equipment and tools will be provided. Lunch will be provided for those who register ahead of time using the form below.
