Join the Northwoods Volunteer Connection for an evening in celebration of National Volunteer Week!

7:30 pm - 8:30 pm  Superior Hiking Trail Volunteer Training *

Volunteers play an important role in caring for public lands in northeastern Minnesota. Local hiking, biking, ATV, snowmobile and ski trails make the region a destination for outdoor recreation and the work of forest volunteers keeps these trails open for use. Join us for an open house to visit with local groups about their upcoming volunteer events and learn how you can get involved.

These groups will have tables with information and representatives available to answer questions.

* Volunteers working on the Superior Hiking Trail are required to attend a training in maintenance standards and tool use. This training will take place from 7:30 - 8:30 pm and is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about the volunteering on the SHT.

Open house attendees will be entered to win door prizes provided by Stone Harbor Wilderness Supply, Lake Superior Trading Post, Cook County YMCA and more!

Snacks will be provided, beverages will be available for purchase.

Featured Speaker - John Storkamp

John Storkamp is a Hastings native who splits his time between the Twin Cities and the North Shore of Minnesota.  John started visiting the North Shore on multi-day Superior Hiking Trail backpacking trips in the mid-1990's.  His love of the North Shore, the BWCA, the Superior National Forest and Superior Hiking Trail has led to a lifetime of engagement with the area through a diverse range of activities including as a backpacker, day hiker, thru-hiker, trail runner, paddler, winter camper, event director and volunteer.  As a "lifetime" Superior Hiking Trail Association Member, annual SHTA sustaining financial contributor, SHT volunteer Sawyer and race director for the Superior Spring and Fall Trail Running races held on the Superior Hiking Trail, John has a one of a kind perspective to share.  Join us on Monday April 24th as John reveals his diverse experiences on the shore, in the forest and on the trail through a presentation highlighting his personal background, ways in which he engages with the area and his thoughts as a volunteer and volunteer coordinator.
